Thanksgiving Day in Guatemala - November 25, 2010
by Karen Dunn | December 7, 2010
We started out the day by taking a boat to Santiago de Atitlan. This was our first time to this town. It was great.
Our boat driver told us the house below was named "the second best house in the world" in 2006 on a British tv show.
See what we had to go through to get to the town.
There were a lot of fisherman fishing.
We were told the houses along the shore are all owned by foreigners. They are unoccupied for most of the year.
The water level of the lake is way up. They have had to rebuild their docks several times.
See the park underwater.
The kids are now swimming in their park.
The first thing we did when we arrived in Santiago, was to eat brunch at El Pescadora.
What the boys had for brunch.
While we were having brunch, Justin was playing with a kid through the window.
A truck full of pineapples right outside the restaurant.
After brunch, we headed past the market to look at the church. There was a neat park near the market.
Lake Atitlan.
Love this picture of the two men sitting in the park.
Pictures around the church.
Wojtek was able to get free wifi service on his iPod in the middle of the plaza! Combining the old with the new.

Then we went and searched for Maxi Mon (ma-shee-món), the smoking-and-drinking Mayan-Catholic deity. We had to pay 2Q ($.25) to look at him and an additional 10Q ($1.25) to take a picture.
On our way back to the boat we stopped at the weaving factory. Notice they are all men. I think the woman are on the streets selling the stuff.
We couldn't leave without buying a few masks. There were a lot of great masks in this city.
Walking the streets of Santiago.
The cow in the back of a pick-up truck.
Delivering chips around town.
Public transportation.
Beautiful door.
Notice the man wearing typical Mayan clothing.
The place we bought a few masks.
The last stop was at the museum for Maya Women Weavers where we saw the biggest leaf ever.
Then we headed back to Pana on the boat to have Thanksgiving dinner.
