Day of the Children Parade

by Karen Dunn | October 2, 2010

Today was a big day in Panajachel.  The Day of the Children.  The kids didn't have school, instead they got to march in a LONG parade.  They marched for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.  We met at the school at 8am and started walking to the starting point somewhere around 8:30.

Justin was giving us a hard time in the morning.  Saying he didn't want to dress up!  So glad he cooperated.  Aren't they so cute!

Walking to the starting point of the parade.  This is a view of the river right by the school.  The Kindergarten class is in the van in front of us.  Nat and I were following in the back.

Turning back toward the lake.  We aren't sure what they are doing, but it looks like they are cleaning up the river with big machines and then sorting the dirt into different piles - sand, little rocks, big rocks.  Reminds me of you Dave!

After the parade we went and got a liquado on Santander Street and every now and then more people came marching by.

When we left the house in the morning it was cloudy and I thought it was going to be cold.  I didn't even think to bring sunscreen.  As we were walking it warmed up a lot and the sun came out a little, but it still seemed a little cloudy.  Justin's teacher was telling me that he got his worse burn the day after the first huge storm walking around making sure everyone was okay.  It was overcast that day as well.  I got home and looked in the mirror and couldn't believe how red I was.  Nat and the boys didn't get burned.
