Christmas in Budapest: JFK Airport

by Justin Dunn | December 22, 2023

And I’m back on the road, off to explore the world! This time, I’m traveling with my parents to Budapest, where we’ll meet up with my brothers and my dad’s older sister’s family. I’m writing this from our gate in JFK airport. Unfortunately, we woke up to a text from Delta saying that our connecting flight from Amsterdam to Budapest was canceled and rescheduled for the next day. After a very stressful car ride where my mom was talking with someone from Delta for four hours, we concluded that we couldn’t get to Budapest tonight. Fortunately, we will have about 24 hours in Amsterdam, which should give us enough time to head into the city and get dinner. I’ve heard that Amsterdam is a beautiful city and can’t wait to see what it’s like.

We’re so ready for our flight!

Now, Budapest might seem like a pretty random location. I hadn’t really thought about Hungary at all until a few years ago when my oldest cousin, Cullen, moved there to teach English as a Second Language. He ended up staying there for three years, where he met his girlfriend, Lilla. I never considered traveling to Hungary until Ryan got into a study abroad program there this past semester. He’s had a great time, meeting college students from a bunch of different schools and taking trips around Europe. It has been a while since I’ve seen my brothers and cousins and I’m excited to spend Christmas and New Year’s together as a family.

I look forward to taking you with me on this trip across the Atlantic! Have a great holiday season and you’ll hear from me soon. Stay tuned!
