The Dunns

70. Tikal (12-29-10)

by Karen Dunn | February 7, 2011

We headed back to Tikal for a second day.  We wanted to be there when the jungle was waking up and the boys wanted to do some more climbing.

We left the hotel around 5:30 am so we could get there when the park opened up at 6:00 am.

Unfortunately, at 6:00 am it was damp and the mosquitoes were out.  I was a little nervous when the kids were running all over the place.  But it dried up and when we weren't in the thick of the jungle the mosquitoes weren't bad.  I was happy we decided to take malaria medicine, even though it was VERY hard getting the boys to take the medicine.

Our first stop was to see if we could see the crocodiles.  We found one.

 Jared climbing.

Wood Shop in El Ramate:  They start out with a drawing and then beginning chipping away at a piece of wood.

The store with the finished products wasn't opened, so we went and had lunch at this hotel/restaurant before returning to the wood store.

Amazing carvings were in the restaurant.

After lunch we went back to the wood shop to see if the store had opened.  I was amazed at how they could transform a piece of wood into a beautiful piece of art.

Finished items in their store.  I wish they had a store in Syracuse!

The final good are for sale in the front of this building and the workshop is in the back.
After shopping, we went and got our bags at La Casa de Don David and headed to Flores to the airport.
