146. Day in Panajachel (4-13-11)

by Karen Dunn | April 30, 2011

My friends and I spent the day in Panajachel.

My friend Genevieve spent the day photographing the kids at LIFE School (these pictures are not hers).  Check out her website:  www.genphotos.com.  She is an amazing photographer.  I can't wait to see her photos.

While Genevieve was at LIFE, the kids created an alfombra on the basketball court, in the spirit of Easter.  The week before Easter is huge here in Guatemala.  The Guatemalans spend a lot of time creating these alfombras and then a procession goes over them.

Getting the flowers ready.
Starting the alfombra on the basketball court.
When I went back to the hotel, I found Coralie and Nikki reading by the pool.  They were in no rush to go anywhere.
 Nat came to join them.
They had breakfast down by the lake, while I was at the school with Genevieve.

Around noon, the three of us went to pick up Genevieve at LIFE and we headed to Solomon's Porch for lunch.
Lunch at Solomon's Porch.  We had yummy burritos and nachos.
After lunch, Genevieve went back to LIFE to take more pictures and we did a little shopping.  We headed back to LIFE at the end of the day to pick up Genevieve and my boys.

Here are pictures of the finished alfombra.  The kids did an amazing job.
